How to Tie the 20 Knots You Need to Know in a Survival Situation

The 20 Knots You Need to Know in a Survival Situation

Knots tieing is a skill that used to be common and has since become rather unimportant to most people. Many preppers don’t even appreciate the importance of understanding some basic knots for survival situations.

Now is the time to learn and practice these different knots. I wouldn’t expect anyone to just jump in and memorize every one of these knots, but looking through and finding several that meet your needs is a good idea.

The knots that I see being the most important for survival and prepping situations are those that allow you to join one line to another, and knots that let you tie a line to a solid object like a tree. The old adage of “If you can’t tie a knot, tie a lot.” just doesn’t cut it when you’re working with limited resources.

A good knot can save lives when you’re dealing with a survival situation, performing first aid, and when working over heights or water. But, you have to know how to tie it. So make sure you know what to do with your rope the next time you head into the wild by learning these 20 essential knots.

Tying one line to another line is a skill that can be essential in a survival situation.

The Square Knot is a classic for connecting lines and tying knots. Whether you are tying two ropes together to make a longer rope, or you are tying up a bundle of firewood to carry, the Square Knot is a winner. It’s much more secure and stable than its cousin the Granny Knot.

The Clove Hitch is an easy knot to tie, and it secures a line to a tree or post quickly, but it does slip when used alone, without any other knots as a backup.

Survival knots you need to know.

The Bowline creates a loop at the end of a rope that cannot shrink or expand. This knot is often taught with the story of the rabbit coming out of the hole, in front of the tree, going behind the tree, and back down his original hole.
